Designed for Neurodivergent Brains

Every design decision in NeuroDinoWorld was made with ADHD, autism, sensory processing differences, and similar conditions in mind:

• Calm, low-stimulation visual design — no flashing, no aggressive animations
• Warm colour palette chosen to reduce visual overwhelm
• Simple, predictable navigation — children always know where they are
• No time pressure or countdown timers in activities
• No competitive scoring or losing states that could cause distress
• Positive reinforcement only — no negative feedback or failure states

Audio Narration & Voice Support

• All stories, games and activities are narrated in a calm, warm Australian voice
• Audio narration supports children who struggle with reading or text processing
• Voice is paced slowly and clearly — designed for children who need more processing time
• Audio can be replayed as many times as needed without restriction
• No text-only content — everything has an audio equivalent

Built-in Screen Time Management

• The app shows a friendly brain-break reminder roughly every 20 minutes (the child can adjust this interval)
• Children are gently encouraged to move, stretch or look away from the screen
• This is a dismissible on-screen reminder, not a lock — it will keep reappearing at the set interval to nudge the habit, but it doesn't block the app
• Supports healthy screen habits by building a gentle rhythm, not by restricting access

Sensory & Emotional Regulation Tools

• Breathing exercises with animated visual guides
• Feelings check-ins to help children identify and name emotions
• Calm corner activities for sensory regulation and grounding
• Star charts and reward tools for motivation without pressure
• All tools designed by someone with lived experience of neurodivergent parenting

Parental Controls & Safety

• Parental gate (maths question) required before accessing any external links
• All accounts created and managed by parents only — children never sign up
• No advertising, no social features, no chat
• No data collected from children

Text & Readability

• Large, clear fonts throughout the app
• High contrast text on dark backgrounds
• Short sentences and simple vocabulary appropriate for ages 5-12
• No walls of text — information is presented in small, digestible pieces

Compatibility

• Supports iOS Dynamic Text sizing
• Tested on iPhone and iPad across multiple screen sizes
• Works in both portrait and landscape orientation
• Compatible with iOS VoiceOver for key navigation elements

Coming in Version 1.1

We are actively working on the following accessibility improvements:

• Captions & subtitles — on-screen text alongside all audio narration, supporting deaf and hard of hearing users and children who read along with audio
• Enhanced Dynamic Text support — full iOS Dynamic Type integration so the entire app respects your preferred text size set in iOS Settings
• Reduced motion option — ability to minimise animations for users with vestibular or sensory sensitivities
